By: doebtown
The next time you need to place a telephone call to the customer-service department of a major US company or governmental institution, consider consulting The IVR Cheat Sheetâ„¢ by Paul English before you begin. The IVR Cheat Sheet not only lists the phone numbers for many customer-service departments, but it ALSO lists suggested steps to out-smart the computers that answer such calls in an attempt to route your call. Follow these tips and you'll have a much easier time reaching a live operator right away. Check it out . . . I'm sure you'll be impressed!

Meet The Fockers Dinner

By: doebtown
There was much talk about the meeting between my parents and Kati's parents being called "Meet The Fockers." Trouble was, nobody was sure WHICH of the parents WERE the Fockers (I am, however, pretty sure Bob and Paula have that one wrapped up)!

Comments:
Now now...I called this evening the Meet the PARENTS dinner! I am quite sure neither of our parents are quite as outlandish as the Fockers!!

It was a wonderful night and I'm so glad everyone got the chance to meet! We'll be doing it again in a couple weeks!!

Critical Reviews of doebtown

By: doebtown
There have been a COUPLE of recent suggestions that perhaps the content on doebtown isn't being updated often enough. While I'm quick to respond to these comments by reminding people that I DO have a full time job that keeps me pretty busy, I AM committed to keeping my readers up to date.

I would, therefore, most welcome any suggestions that any of you might have as to new content you would enjoy seeing posted here in the new year. There will--to be sure--be significant format changes come . . . say, June. In the meantime, however, LMK if there is stuff I can do to make the eleven seconds you spend every week or so to check in more enjoyable.

Christmas Pictures

By: doebtown
This was a VERY full holiday weekend for me and Kati. Festivities kicked off Friday night with the "Adult Celebration" at Adagio Restaurant in Summit. The Christmas Eve party on Saturday night was held at our apartment in Brooklyn. We were then back to Summit Sunday night for Christmas Dinner at Matt and Tracy's house. Tonight my parents and Kati's parents met for the first time. And TOMORROW, we're celebrating Paula's birthday with dinner at The River Cafe. Whew!--we've been doin' a ton o' eatin'.

Anyway, many thanks to everyone for a great Christmas. Thanks especially to Jan and John for a great dinner Friday night, thanks to Tracy and Matt for hosting us for dinner Sunday night, and thanks to Bob and Paula for dinner tonight. Thanks especially, though, to Sweet Kati for putting together a nice event Saturday night, for bakin' tons and tons of cookies, and for making our first Christmas as an engaged couple so special.

More pictures will follow. As always, click on the pictures for a larger image that's more appropriate for printing or downloading.

Gilles Is A Father!

By: doebtown
I'm proud to pass along the great news that Gilles and Toko became the happy parents of a baby boy on Friday afternoon. While there's some question about the baby's weight at birth--the physician apparently only told them the weight in grams and didn't give them the ever-popular pounds and ounces breakdown that we all know and love--all reports indicate that both mother and child are healthy!

So congratulations to Gilles and Toko. Watching this baby grow up will be fun!

Christmas In Boston

By: doebtown
Last weekend, Kati and I accepted a very kind invitation from my buddy Walker (also one of the very fine gentlemen in our Bridal Party--for more information of Walker, visit the "Entourage" page of twodoebs.com) and his girlfriend, Laura, to attend what is turning out to be an annual Christmas party in their apartment. We had a good time and it seemed as if everyone else did, too (I'm sure the fact that Walker ditched us for breakfast the next morning attests to how much fun HE had!). Many thanks to Walker and Laura for once again inviting us.

As always, click on the pictures below for a larger image.

So all night, I'm tryin' to get a good picture of Walker. I need a picture, I tell him, to put up onto the aforementioned Wedding Party page of twodoebs.com (and those of you who HAVE visited that page will agree that the placeholder picture of Big Ben Roethlisberger doesn't QUITE fit in as well as a REAL picture would). And does he just let me take a picture of him like the mature adult that he is? No--of COURSE not! I TRIED to blur out this obscenity for those of you who might be offended by such vulgarity, but I'm afraid there's little that can be done to blur over the crassness of Walker's mentality. Let's hope he doesn't behave like this on the alter!

Well, I always knew SOMETHING good would come from all that time Walker and I spent at Chess Camp. For the record, 'cause of our rockin' awesome strategy, Walker and I didn't have to drink ANY of that junk on the table!

Well, I KNOW we may not be THAT much fun to party with . . . but Kati IS at the party and this picture did NOT just catch her mid-blink (in other words, she's sleepin' at the party!).

I wasn't sleeping...I was just resting my eyes!!!!!

On Kati's BRILLIANT suggestion, we took a detour and I had the opportunity to live a DREAM--we went to the current project being worked on by the "This Old House" crew. Granted, Norm and Tom WEREN'T there, but it was STILL pretty freekin' cool!

Ohio University football coach convicted of drunken driving

By: doebtown
Less than one year after this guy arrived in Athens, he was found passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle, which was facing the wrong direction on a one-way street and in drive. Oh, Ohio Univeristy . . . how you LOVE to cause us so much pain!
