Ha ha! Largely due to the pictures of me and Kati and all the announcements we've been posting recently, doebtown has been getting an unusual number of visitors. And I'm VERY pleased that so many mothers and fathers and aunts and uncles and other people who wouldn't NORMALLY visit a blog are making this humble page their first venture into the wonderful world internet publishing.
And one of the questions I've been hearing a LOT recently is: "what, exactly, is a blog?" The short answer, of course, is--THIS! What you all really want, though, is a more technical answer and I'm happy to give you just that.
Let's start with the word. "Blog" comes as a contraction for the term "Web Log." Web, as in it lives on the World Wide Web; and Log, as in it keeps track of activities.
Wikipedia (which is a a Web-based, multi-language,
free-content encyclopedia written collaboratively by volunteers and is REALLY a great online resource--another e-tool everyone should add to the ol' arsenal) defines a blog as "a web-based publication consisting primarily of periodic articles (normally in reverse chronological order)." The subject matter of a blog is as diverse as the people writing them!
"Dumpling, dumplings . . . rah, rah, rah!"
Kati and I were pleased to spend the holiday weekend in Pittsburgh and delighted to be the guests of honor at an engagement party hosted by my parents. It was three days of all things wedding: phone calls to the wedding party (still waiting to hear from two hopefuls, so no final details, yet . . . stay tuned), visits to a store teeming with registry stuff (let me just say, THAT was certainly the highlight of the weekend for ME!), and discussions of where in Hilton Head the rehearsal dinner should be (can anyone substantiate this rumor Tommy started that somehow he, Susan, Scott and I have been banned from The Salty Dog Cafe?).
I'm posting a ton of pictures I took from the weekend below. I'll be interested in hearing if people would RATHER if I just have a link to a Kodak Easy Share gallery, or if having pictures right on Doebtown is just fine. I've tried to work things so that anyone who might be willing to post comments can do so to individual pictures. Also each picture can be clicked on for a larger image that's more appropriate for anyone who might want to print or download a shot.
Of course, Kati and I were responsible for running a few errands before the party. And of COURSE, we took the advantage of going the L O N G way everywhere we were going to take the Batmobile for a spin.
Kati takes a break from the weekend's stress in the kitchen.
There was tons of grillin' to be done, so Yak had his work cut out for him.
It's not easy bein' as pretty as she is, and Sweet Kati paid attention to EACH and every hair to be sure that she made a good impression.
Paula might be the hostest-with-the-mostest, but she doesn't let all her responsibilities keep her from enjoying her company!
Yak helping himself to the fruits of his labors.
Kati can probably recite "her story" in her sleep: "I grew up in Chicago and New Jersey, I went to college at Miami of Ohio and grad school at the London School of Economics."
Schmarbo-Schmast knows to follow his mom to parties for good eats!
Kay is PROBABLY telling Kati what a wonderful guy I am.
People made fun on Kati and *I* 'cause they said our outfits matched, but I don't know about what THESE two had goin' on as far as coordinating with each other . . .
As IF the food wasn't ENOUGH good stuff! But, hey, if I have to spend an afternoon looking at flatware, I should at LEAST get to open some of the [great] loot (I know Kati's sending out thank you notes to everyone, but MY special thanks for all the gifts--they were unexpected and very kind!).
Kati ALSO seemed to enjoy opening a few unexpected presents.
